Truly wild to watch the progression of “fandom is a communal, transgressive subculture where people take back control over art from corporations” to “fandom is a way for people to make an identity out of mindless consumerism where even talking about art online is seen as brand promotion” in real time

in fact, wild to watch people go having serious discussions about interacting with art as a form of creativity to it being seen as a form of capitalist brainwashing to even mention a movie or band. Hell world all around

i know some part of it is because posers and brands have co-opted fandom but there’s also just been a massive shift in the way people conceptualize interacting with art as contributing to the capitalist machine and allowing yourself to become brainwashed into docility or using it as some kind of self identifier that needs to be dismantled. Seeing a post that’s like “who are you when you aren’t watching a movie or listening to music” reader my soul left my fucking body

I thought it would be cool if the Ba birds were dead members of the EN9 (Khenti’s archeology agency) who work as messenger birds or eyes from the skies! 🐦

OH BOY IT’S TIME TO TALK ABOUT MY FAVORITE HYPER-NICHE POLITICAL DRAMA

Florida’s state bird has been a matter of significant contention for over two decades (the endemic scrub jay is the frontrunner, but I’m in the flamingo camp) and, but for the efforts of one woman, it would almost certainly have been changed by now.

Former NRA president Marion P. Hammer loves two things in life: guns and mockingbirds. She has devoted herself to both with equal fervor, but her bizarre, simmering loathing of the endangered scrub jay started with fighting a group of highschoolers in 1999 and has persisted with regular updates to this day. Here’s a few highlights:

For 95 years the mockingbird has been Florida’s state bird. Let’s keep it that way. Jan 5 2023

In praise of the mockingbird: There’s no room for debate. Oct 8 2021

For 88 years the mockingbird has been Florida’s state bird and it doesn’t need to change. Jan 12 2016

Students pick osprey for Florida’s new state bird. Sep 9 2009

Ol’ Marion has called the scrub jay ‘evil,’ 'ugly,’ and accused it of welfare-seeking and being a bad singer. While I have no proof of a Cruella-esque backstory in which a gang of scrub jays killed her entire family at the age of 7 and she was only able to survive because of the rifle she kept under her pillow, I think we can all agree that’s the most logical explanation.

Texas, picking the northern mockingbird before any other state in 1927, watching as Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida all pick the same damn bird:

“damn I’m crying over an insect” “why am I having such strong feelings over how the sky looks” “it’s weird how happy this small thing made me feel” THAT’S BECAUSE YOU LIVE HERE!!!! you live on this earth. everything all the time is an experience, no matter how common or mundane. this world is unique. so are its small moments. it is good to enjoy a tiny thing. you love the world even at its smallest scale.

When I was in middle school I got in a fight w my friend abt whether or not this was weird. I was like “why are they knocking their heads against each other like that” and then my friend was like they’re fucking cuddling freak. When I got in a relationship later and nuzzled my partners face for the first time I felt like a fucking virgin for criticizing these women who had already been through so much
